ANAT BEN DAVID
Dr
Anat Ben-David’s approach to time based work- music,
performance and film, is founded in exploring the freedom of live improvisation
combined with structural methods that relate to musical composition. Her
background in experimental theatre (the school of Visual Theatre, Jerusalem)
and as a member of electro–punk band and art collective Chicks On Speed, has
led to projects such as Kairos
OperaArt (commissioned for the opening of the
new wing of Victoria and Albert Museum in 2017) where live electronic
processing meets classical instrumentation in a fusion of mediums and genres.
In her doctoral research Oscillation and
Disturbance in the OpeRaArt (Kingston
University, 2015) Ben David coined the term ‘OpeRaArt’
to explain her rearrangements of sound-text into musical compositions.
Ben-David recent collaborations include Lina
Lapelyte (winner of Venice Golden-Lion prize,
2019) James Oldham (Waste Paper Opera) Sean Ashton,
opera singer Anna
Dennis, poet Richard
Scott, vocalist Sharon Gal and
violinist Angharad Davies... Ben-David is an associate lecturer teaching art
and performance at Central saint Martins, Royal Collage
Of Art, as well as internationally.
My
work moves between performance and sound/music modes. Experimental in approach,
it establishes themes, structure and narratives through live performance, using
methods that allow me to refine structures through improvisation. This is why my
work fits into different contexts and genres: galleries/museums, music venues,
improvisation spaces.( Anat ben-david)
